Joe DioGuardi, former United States Representative, and the young men of Peekskill (NY) High School’s Black Diamonds Academic Success Program want justice for African American Heroes of WWI & WWII!

In an effort to correct a longstanding racial injustice, former Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Rep. Mickey Leland, and former US Representative DioGuardi introduced two bills on October 20, 1987 to posthumously award The Medal of Honor to two extraordinarily brave African American servicemen who fought for the United States in World Wars I and II.  The Black Diamonds, part of My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, have been dedicated to this cause for the past two years.

Help Joe, The Black Diamonds and others to petition to get Doris "Dorie" Miller, an African American sailor in the United States Navy, a Congressional Medal. Dorie manned anti-aircraft guns during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, for which he had no training, and tended to the wounded.

He was recognized by the Navy for his actions and awarded the Navy Cross.

MBK Black Diamond Program Mentor/Advisor Mr. Martin McDonald was recently contacted by staff members from New York’s 17 th District Congresswoman Nita Lowey’s office. They advised Mr. McDonald that she is committed to co-signing the Bill to get Dorie Miller the Medal of Honor!!!!
